Where to setup shop…
Posted in General, Uncategorized on October 21st, 2010 by Tom – 1 CommentLet’s start with some assumptions.
- Your attractive.
- You have a job. In Amsterdam. As a prostitute.
Now some background information.
Every time I have visited Amsterdam and toured the Red Light District I have noticed that their seems to be some sort of hierarchy. The older broken down workers are usually in the less trafficked areas. The younger more attractive workers are in the more highly trafficked areas.
So how do you decide?
So I wonder, who decides where to setup shop, and what that decision making process is like. Is their some organization that decides the hot hookers get the prime real-estate and the busted down hoes go to the other areas? Or is it as simple as how much the owner of the establishments charge for rent. So if you are in a heavily trafficked area you pay more then the outskirts.
If it is as simple as the cost of rent, then that is where the real difficult problems questions come in. So back to being a prostitute, remember you are attractive. As I see it you have three choices.
1. Pick the high traffic area paying more rent and getting more business.
2. Pick a medium traffic area paying medium rent get moderate business.
3. Pick a low traffic area paying low rent and get small amount of business.
The benefits of the high traffic area are higher traffic. You may also get more mainstream clientele. The downside is that you end up being like a McDonald’s drive through, billions served.
The benefits of the low traffic area are you likely save on rent and probably have less people to service. Of course you also likely get more freaks and probably are charging less.
Other thoughts…
My own views pollute the choices. My moral upbringing means I have an aversion to prostitution. Not actual prostitutes actually, more being a prostitute. So if it was something I had to do I would want to do as little of it as possible. Ignoring for the moment that I wouldn’t enjoy being a prostitute, I think the only sound business solution is to pick the highest trafficked areas and work your way down to the low rent areas as you get old and used and fat.
Yes, this is what I do with an MBA. I wonder about the economics and strategy of prostitutes.
